Twitters figures have doubled over the last month. Irish figures have also highlighted a huge growth in the level of people tweeting.

Domino’s Pizza Response
Ad age reports:
“It's amazing to me that somebody in this day and age would think, 'Hey, I can do that and get away with it.'"stated the Dominos VP. But did they get away with it?
CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- Just how much damage two hooligans can do with a video camera is still unknown. But when the dust finally settles on Domino's Boogergate, it seems likely the pizza chain will be given credit for an effective, if somewhat sluggish, response. And the resulting public-relations crisis can be a valuable learning experience for marketers of every stripe
I think that Domino’s response was ok. They released statements having learned from JetBlue and other companies who failed to react as strongly as was needed.
Says Coke Brand's Ion4 Campaign Misleads Consumers Into Thinking Pepsi Beverage Is 'Incomplete'
PepsiCo's Gatorade brand today filed a lawsuit against Coca-Cola's Powerade, alleging false advertising, trademark dilution, deceptive acts and practices, injury to business reputation, and unfair competition. the Federal Trade Commission follows through with its proposed plan to start regulating viral marketing and blogs.
As part of its review of its advertising guidelines, the FTC is proposing that word-of-mouth marketers and bloggers, as well as people on social-media sites such as Facebook, be held liable for any false statements they make about a product they're promoting, along with the product's marketer.
This could present a significant issue for marketers, including the likes of Microsoft, Ford and Pepsi, who spend billions on word-of-mouth and social media. PQ Media projects that marketers will spend $3.7 billion on word-of-mouth marketing in 2011.
I think that this could add relevance and power to bloggers. I do not see this being introduced across the board because it would be almost un-policable, however in some cases, if true it could add to the bloggers opinion and influence. Would Damien Mulley be sued for announcing some of his views, would the dameg already be done after he blogs, would the response harm the brand in question? Watch this space.

Package-Goods Brand Earns $1.28 Million in Sales From $1 Million Social-Media Campaign
BATAVIA, Ohio (AdAge.com) -- Package-goods brands are still cautious about social media, figuring that the return on investment can't be accurately measured. After all, marketing on Facebook or MySpace might generate a conversation but not necessarily a sale. Now, however, a method is emerging to relate one to the other, potentially eliminating a major impediment.
Recent research from ComScore, MySpace and Dunnhumby presented at the Advertising Research Foundation's Re:Think 2009 conference in late March suggests that even relatively small outlays on social networks by package-goods brands can result in offline sales impact and deliver positive return on investment.
To overcome that, MySpace teamed with ComScore, which uses a panel of more than 1 million people in the U.S. to track internet usage, and Dunnhumby, which runs loyalty programs for supermarket retailers and has access to loyalty-card purchase data from 59 million people in the U.S. The two panels include 60,000 people who are part of both databases, creating a single-source database that allows a definitive look at how internet ads affect offline purchases.
But by the measure that matters most, sales, the campaign appeared to pay off nicely. It produced $1.28 million in offline sales, as measured by Dunnhumby, which compared purchases among shoppers not exposed to the campaign with purchases among those who were. That amounted to a 28% return on investment, not counting returns from repeat sales among consumers the brand won via the campaign.
Why Free-Ride YouTube Is Finally Winning Ad Dollars
Ford are using Youutve very effectively as a medium to target youth. This is a very effective way of using social media, especially when many people have to quick to dismiss Youtube as a viable commercial marketing tool.
The Ford campaign, which will have 100 social-media influencers upload their exploits with the car to the "Fiesta Movement" channel, includes no corresponding media buy. Ford is, in effect, using YouTube as the core of its marketing plan but not paying Google a penny for the privilege.

Twitter worm has Twitterers aflutter and in reTweet
Is Twitter secure? this is first occasion whereby the security of Twitter has been highlighted.
A Twitter worm is on the loose, infecting profiles, and has Twitterers all aflutter, trying to figure out how to make it stop.
The worm – known as Milkeyy – sent automatically generated tweets, or messages, urging users to visit a site called StalkDaily.com. Users are urged not to click on the URL.
In a blog post, Twitter said it has taken steps to remove the vulnerability.
“Earlier today, we were informed of a malicious site that was spreading links to StalkDaily.com on Twitter without user consent via a cross-site scripting vulnerability. We’ve taken steps to remove the offending updates, and to close the holes that allowed this 'worm' to spread.
“No passwords, phone numbers, or other sensitive information were compromised as part of this attack,” Twitter stated.
EU declares war on social sites guilty of privacy invasion
More privacy concerns for social media. As the concerns for security and information heats up, as it was always bound to, social media is the latest medium to be challenged by the European Commission. Although I do not think that anything overly serious will come of this, I think it is important to highlight the security issues around the online space.
If social media is being challenged I am dying to find out what happens when people start challenging Google. A media company with all our information and everyone’s information wouldn’t be accepted any but online, and how long before people question their ethics.

Thank you for saying I am a buddy, what a special day !
